"Musicus Emeritus" - Those of us who know Steve sometimes refer to him as our "Musicus Emeritus" ... kind of a new name for musicians who, having had a lot of professional playing experience, are highly qualified to pass their learning and skills on to future generations of jazz musicians. Steve currently lives and plays in Nacogdoches, TX and the surrounding area.

Steve started as a trombonist in 1951. He worked his way thorough high school in Salina, Kansas under the direction of Clayton Chartier, and attended college at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas playing with the Matt Betton Orchestra, named in 1942 the #1 stage band orchestra in America by Billboard Magazine. Matt Betton was the founder of NAJE (National Association of Jazz Educators) - later renamed IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education). Steve is a lifetime AFM gold card holder - currently AFM #655, Miami, Florida. He has been playing big band lead, jazz, dixieland, contemporary, society, club, latin, rock, etc. professionally for 60 years. Steve loves meeting real musicians and jazz lovers with similar backgrounds, experiences, and musical tastes.
